Living a wholehearted life in concert with your personal purpose is a gift. It takes courage to be able to dream, put forth that dream and act on it to make it reality. The Seven Acts of Courage is an excellent blue print to help each of us increase our levels of personal power, efficacy and ability. I strongly recommend this book to all who those that know they are making a positive difference in this world and have the guts to work on themselves so they can amp up their intensity and contribution!
I’ve just finished reading The 7 Acts of Courage, which is definitely not only for leaders but for anyone interested in living more fully. It is an exceptional book, truly. The heart with which Dusty Staub writes, the way he has used relevant and heart-opening stories to teach with and, especially, the activities to move the reader into and through the Acts of Courage to a place of strength is extraordinarily well done. There is a unique combination of business acumen, seasoned understanding of human behavior, the author's own personal vulnerability and the obvious deep belief he has that our humanness is most well lived when we engage from our heart. All of that makes this book an exceptional tool and an enjoyable read.
There are many sections that could be noted as powerful, but one that was poignant for me, as it can be seen daily, was ‘In Defense of Defenselessness’. The author writes
"The only real defense is defenselessness…. In the process of defending ourselves from confrontations, we deny the perceptions of others and do violence to learning and relating. We block the attempts those around us make to express their truths. We hurt others by withdrawing, attacking, or discounting their sense of reality and we mar our own ability to connect and learn how to relate better.” (underlining mine)
I am grateful that the author shares his insights and tools so well that they are easily accessible to whomever chooses to take this book in hand. One needn’t be a scholar, business person or accomplished at anything, other than being fully human, in order to gain tremendously from what The 7 Acts of Courage offers up on every page.
